I am so proud of this class! They all are such hard workers and strive to do their personal best. It has been a joy watching them grow and learn. It has been SUCH a blessing to work with each student. From one year to five years of working and learning together, I will keep lasting memories of each of my students. :-)
Thanks to everyone who helped make our Fantastic Froggy Farewell Feast a success! I REALLY appreicate all the parents who could come to this special event.
I wish that my technology was working today so we all could share in watching THE PUSH. Please watch the video when you can. I want each of my students to soar, be happy and strive to do their personal best.
I enjoyed reading "I Knew You Could" to the class today. I was proud of myself for not crying while reading it. LOL! Life will show you many 'tracks' to travel. Choose the track that best suits your interests and talents and forge ahead on life's journey. Have confidence in yourself and persevere!
Blessing and best wishes!

Fifth Grade "Graduation" Celebration May 2010
The fifth grade class had fun celebrating their many successes of the year! The students chose the theme "graduation". They graduated from the elementary Target class to the middle school AC classes. I know they learned many skills and strategies that will help them be very successful in middle school. The kids shared their favorite Ford memories with the audience, enjoyed yummy fruits and cupcakes, and watched their Target teacher tear up when she read them "I Knew You Could". They even earned diplomas!

:::January 2010 Project:::
PURPOSE: The ‘Topic of Interest’ (TOI) or ‘Area of Expertise’ (AOE) project is a time for students to explore something they would like to learn more about. While students are researching, they will work on and improve skills such as selecting a topic that is ‘just right’ (not too broad/ not too simple), searching for appropriate resources – books, online, articles, reference sources, how to take notes, how to paraphrase/summarize, how to record sources, and how to present a topic in a creative and informative way. Also – it is a fun way for students to learn more about each other. Ask your child about the checklist and rubric for this assignment. Due dates have been posted on the class calendar.

~Manors of the Kingdom of Ford~
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
3-2/3-09
Greetings Villeins from thy day of Fourth and Fifth!
Thy villeins of the Kindgom shared maps of thy manors today and thee learned about Manorialism. Students also researched more about a 'Royal Feast'. Students are keeping up with their learning by taking notes. Thy notes are very important and valuable. Who knows, thy Lady of thy Manor may bless thy villeins with an assessment.
The EQ for today was: How did manorialism provide the economic basis for society during the middle ages? Some students were not able to answer the EQ properly. This week -please research about Manorialism and watch the video we discussed in class again to improve the EQ answer. This is due by next week. We will discuss the EQ next week in class to make sure everyone understands this concept.
For Homework this week: Students should continue researching people who attended a feast. On paper, they should bring their top three choices.
Would anyone be interested in going to Medieval Times - located in Gwinnett County - as a group? Please email if this sounds interesting to you.
Fare thee well~ Lady K.
Greetings Fifth Grade Lords, Ladies, and Vassals,
The students continue to work at their manors in the Kingdom of Ford. Students shared flags that represent their manor. Scroll down to see the manor flags. We also dug deeper into the concept of feudalism and all that is involved (castles and serfs). Next week is Early Release for fifth graders, so our day will be shortened.
Fifth graders need to make sure that they come to class next week with the following:
~ colored and labeled map of a manor (Students may need to do additional research to learn more about elements that are included in a medieval manor)
~ Answer 7 questions about a medieval feudal contract.
~ Some students did not finish their logic problem for today. Due asap...
~ field trip paper work - Parents are welcome! More the merrier!
Use the class calendar/blog to keep up with topics and assignments.
Fare thee well~
Greetings Fourth Grade Lords, Ladies, and Vassals,
It was fun to learn about your manors, the location of your manor, the name, and the symbol/ flag of your manor. Make sure that each manor has a flag/symbol to share at the next class meeting. We will post these next to a map in the hallway for all to enjoy.
We worked very hard today on understanding the concept of Feudalism and the elements of this type of government. We also deciphered a feudal contract. Next week, the citizens of each manor will negotiate the feudal contract of their manor.
Make sure you have the following ready to share for our next class meeting:
~ a colored, labeled map of a manor. We did discuss the variety of things that can be included on a manor. I expect students to do additional research to learn more about manors.
~ Some citizens of the manors did not turn in their copy of Decipher A Feudal Contract questions. Make sure this assignment is turned in ASAP.
~ Elements (obligations of lord/vassal) of the manor feudal contract.
~ Field trip information
Fare thee well!
10.23.07: Change in Topic 3 Assignment
Dear Parents,
I wanted to make you aware of a change in the final assignment of the Rainforest Rendezvous unit. Due to several scheduling conflicts, the topic 3 project has been redesigned. Students have selected either Customs and Cultures of the Rainforest OR Environmental Issues of the Rainforest. As a class, we brainstormed all the elements involved with each topic and the different ways information learned about the topic could be conveyed creatively to the class. Then students worked together in class to prepare an ‘action plan’ of how they would communicate their learning to the rest of the class on Nov 12th (4th grade) or 13th (5th grade). Students have had over 2 hours in class to research, discuss, and plan for their presentation. Homeroom teachers are aware of this presentation and I have requested the opportunity for students to work together after completing any morning work responsibilities.
Students should be working on their action plan at home and during morning work time at school.
Please contact me with any questions.
Thanks,
Mrs. Kennedy
9.19.07 3-D Rainforests
Hi Fourth and Fifth graders!
I am so impressed with all of your hard work and excellent researching skills! I cannot wait to see your 3-D rainforests take shape at Ford. Please be mindful of time in class and try to prepare a few items for your strata before you come to class next week. Please review the project online if you need a reminder. :-)
I will need at least 1 or 2 parents (for each class) to help the class "mount" the rainforest on the wall. I will need someone who is "skilled" with hot glue. Please contact me as soon as you can if you can help. THANKS in advance!!!!
:-) Mrs. Kennedy
