This page was created for training and informing. Hopefully some of your questions will be answered here. Let me know of other info you would like included. Have a great year!!
- No more than 2 students per classroom may come to the library unaccompanied by a teacher and these students will be expected to work silently.
- No more than 4 students unaccompanied by a teacher from each classroom to work on computers. Once again these students are expected to be silent.
- If you are planning a training with a group of students in the media center, please ask to be sure we don't have lessons or stories. It's difficult to expect students to work silently when adults are not and nearly impossible to teach a lesson with others talking.
- Kindergarten students will be trained on the use of shelf markers before checking out and the introduction to the media center letter should be returned and signed for each student prior to checkout.
- We encourage students to check books for torn pages and damage prior to checking out. Many times students return books torn or damaged and we don't know whether the child was at fault or whether it was previous damage. If we catch it we make note inside the book.
- Students may checkout a book if they have one overdue book unless in kindergarten.
- Please encourage students to return books promptly. Many of our books are very popular and others may be waiting.
Shelf Markers
- If a student loses his/her shelf marker and has made an effort to locate it, they will be given a new one if the teacher sends a note of request. If that same students loses another shelf marker, he/she will be charged a replacement fee of $1.00.
- Students will not be admitted to the media center without a shelf marker.
- Please have a safe place to store these shelf markers that is easily accessible to students.
- DO NOT WRITE ON SHELF MARKERS, LABELS OR TAPE ONLY PLEASE.
Media Center Behavior
- The expectation is that the media center be a place of quiet learning. Students who are unruly or overly loud will be sent back to the classrooms.
- We do want students to feel free to come and sit and read if they have permission from you. However, if the same students seem to be here everyday just hanging out with friends, we will contact you to be sure this is what you intended.
- Computers are no exception. If you send students to the media center, please send no more that 4 at a time for computer use unless accompanied by you. These students should work independently.
- No more than 2 students at a time for checkout.
Volunteers
- We love our volunteers here at Ford and we welcome any one that wishes to volunteer in the media center. Please know that we do not have time to train each volunteer individually on equipment, so please be sure that your volunteers are trained prior to giving them a project. We will be happy to set up training for volunteers as a group if you would like.
- RISE students and volunteers who need to play games or read with students should seek out one of the empty classrooms or work in the back corner of the media center. Please ask them not to sit in the front where we may be teaching lessons.
Teacher Checkout and Assistance
- I will be training teachers on the new features of Destiny soon. Please plan to attend. There are so many great features available, I think you will really find this helps in planning from year to year.
- The teacher checkout station is set up once again. If you don't want to use it, we will of course check them out, but we prefer not to take written barcode numbers. If you really don't want to use the self checkout, please stack your books with a note and we will check them out and bring them to you. Remember though, you are in charge of your own Destiny!
Pulling Books
- We strongly recommend that you create a bibliography on Destiny of books you would like pulled. Once you set up an account and are able to create resource lists, you will find how easy and beneficial this is. (It's not that we don't want to pull books, it's that often we pull half the library and then only 1/2 of those get used.)
Lesson Schedule
- 1 week story, 1 week lesson, one week checkout
- PLEASE MEET WITH ME IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COLLABORATE! I WOULD LOVE TO BE A PART OF YOUR LESSONS.
Now for Your First Mission of the Year!
Wait about 10 seconds after my intro for the slide show to begin.
Teacher, I moved for you, I love you, I love our class. You are my second mother, this class is our second home
